Psalm 112 - Happy is the Man

1  Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, Who delights greatly in His commandments.

Blessed = Happy (אשרי ashrey, Strong's #835): The word "blessed" means happy.  It refers to a person who walks his life "straightly" has a good life or is content.

2 His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.

Those who come after him, his children, will be mighty, strong, valiant.

3 Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.

The fruit of righteousness is prosperity, the rewards of diligence.

4 Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness; He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

When you do the right thing, God makes a way for you through difficulty, as sure as the sun will rise and chase away the darkness, so God’s compassion and righteousness will chase away gloom in our spirit.

5 A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion.

Doing good and paying attention to how you do things is the way of a gracious man.

6 Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.

This type of man will have a good reputation and will be remembered for his goodness.

7 He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

Bad news will not shake his confidence, he will trust God.

8 His heart is established; He will not be afraid, Until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

This man trusts in the Lord and allows God to take care of his enemies.

9 He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted with honor.

His generosity brings him a good reputation and his prosperity increases.

10 The wicked will see it and be grieved; He will gnash his teeth and melt away; The desire of the wicked shall perish.

When the wicked see the righteous succeed, they suffer.  Their own passions and jealousy bring them sorrow and unfruitfulness.
