My Friend Shi Yu

Last year our family had two Japanese exchange students which was a great experience!  This summer an Asian exchange student named Shi Yu stayed with us for three weeks.  Shi Yu was special to me because she became my friend.  She spoke English well and smiled and laughed a lot.  Shi Yu enjoyed going with us to Family Camp and visiting the Pacific Ocean .  We spent time together at the mall where she bought gifts for her family and her friends.  Her favorite place to go was Water Works Park in Redding where we all whooshed down the slides on inner-tubes.  She said that the slides were great fun!!  The night before Shi Yu returned we had a nice dinner for her and gave her a gift.  She started crying and said that she wanted to stay longer with us and was not ready to go back home.  Shi Yu and I are close even though she is on the other side of the world.  We keep in contact through e-mail and letters.  I hope Shi Yu can come again and stay with us or that I can accept her invitation to go visit her in Asia .  If you ever have a chance to host an exchange student, you should.  It will be an experience that you will always remember!
